Excellent

I’ve used this net for over a decade. I couldn’t recommend them enough for tenkara or seiryu styles. It also lands surprisingly large fish (for tenkara and keiryu rods). I’ve landed rainbows and browns at 16+ inches easily when you know how to scoop them in. When you are using 7X tippet this net is a saver.
I really like the compact profile and the way it fits on my wading belt. It’s also extremely light. This makes it excellent for walking through the scrub and stops it catching on gorse, blackberries, and other sharps that nets that don’t collapse always seem to do, even when the net is carried on your back. I’ve also never had any issues with it catching when open, unlike one other reviewer. The mesh is very fine, also great for sieving nymphs to see what’s under the rocks.
I find I can open the velcrose pack with one hand and flick it open easily while playing a fish. One trick is to use a good net tether leash - the orvis retractable one currently on sale is a good choice, light and compact, longer than most zips for reach, and just the right tension - not too hard like simms ones for heavier walking staffs, and just enough to hold the net in place handy when you drop it beside you in the stream.

Just okay

I really want to like this net. It has good ergonomics and is lightweight. But that's where the good ends. The biggest problem is that the net itself is not rubberized. So it gets caught on sticker bushes and my flies get snagged in it quite easily. Then there's the lanyard and it is pretty garbage too. After 4 months of use I've had to replace the carribiner and glue the lanyard back together due to it's poor construction. I will continue to use this net since I bought it but would not recommend this net to anyone else.

Excellent net!

This is an excellent net. It's every but as good as the Shimano net which looks similar, but this net is less expensive.

DAMO nets are very common in Japan and are a great choice for streams and small river fishing commonly done with Tenkara. Our DRAGONtail DAMO Tenkara net comes with a lanyard that is connected to the handle just below the net hoop so it does not get tangled in your wading belt. The Lanyard stretches long enough for you to fully extend your arm.

The smooth pointy handle easily slides in and out of your wading belt for easy use. The handle grip shape is wide and fills your hand for a very comfortable grip that is easy to hold and scoop fish. Our handle is longer than many damo net handles found in Japan but Americans are commonly taller and this long handle comes in quite handy when reaching to scoop up a fish. The hoop slightly bends down from the handle for easier scooping and keeping the net away from the body when in your wading belt.

The hoop of the net is 30cm, which is about 12 inches wide. This size is big enough to hold a decent size fish. The net shape is a bucket shape making it easy to access the fish to remove hook with less tangling.

Our DAMO net design is based off of the basic design we have seen in many different damo nets seen in Asian countries from companies like Shimizu, Shimano, Shimano, Alpha Big, Daiwa, Toure, Shoei, and Gamakatsu. Our DAMO Tenkara net has some changes from what is traditionally used among Asian damo net styles to better fit most American’s needs such as a longer handle and a thicker grip shape…

Weighs about 8 ounces.
